View Full Version : Van Der Waerden Numbers (formerly 123numbers)

20th March 2016, 03:25 PM

Van Der Waerden Numbers is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to find better lower bounds for these numbers. The bold numbers in the table below are bounds improved or discovered by this project.

Please post any thoughts, ideas, concerns, likes, and dislikes in this thread. If you would like to see the project added or not added, this would be the time to make that known. The admins have not finished testing the project yet, but felt it would be good to get it out there as a consideration.

I have requested permission from the admin for inclusion, but have not received a response yet. This is just a formal request as we tend to get their permission before making our final decision for inclusion. Once I get a response, we may initiate a stress test challenge of their servers.

Due to not getting a PM response, I have also posted the request in the open forums. http://www.vdwnumbers.org/forum_thread.php?id=57#306

Project admin has given permission. I will try and coordinate a time to do a stress test challenge.

5/20-5/27 - VDWNumbers - [H]ard|OCP's stress test for VDWNumbers potential inclusion into the DC-Vault - Challenge Chat | BOINCstats/BAM! -

I waited to create this for after the BOINC Pentathlon. I figured with teams bunkering that participation would be low before it. I know people are shutting stuff down for the summer but would appreciate all the help we can get.

This project requires ~1GB ram per work unit. It is a math project. I have ran it on both Windows and Linux. The project has ironed out many of the previous issues it had but these challenges can bring forth some that were previously unknown. The admin already gave permission for inclusion and stated that work units are made on the fly.

I have run the project for some time and it seems very stable.
Have not done any further checking but project would be a nice addition to the Vault I think.

I haven't DC'd in so long. Maybe I should just build 1 cruncher. Lol

Well if no one has any problems, we will add this baby to the collection

The challenge did not show any issues of concern.
