Primegrid PPS LLR Challenge

As mentioned before, I've been taking time off from SOB to participate in this PG challenge. Wish I could say it's been going well. I've been fine. PG on the other hand ... has been challenged. Challenge starts ... upload/download servers overwhelmed. They apparently fix this by moving the verification server to add help ... and that does work (though no one can tell how much they have earned, nor what anyone else has earned. Then earlier today ... they run out of woots.

Long story short, no idea how well I'm doing, or the team. Definately have picked up a few extra points in RNA and Spinhenge (had to keep the cores working on something!).

Anyway, I'll be back to SOB and the China Chase come 18 or so hours from now. Meantime, I'll continue to shake my head and wonder ...

Well ... as mentioned elsewhere, I wasn't too sure about my participation in the Challenge (it was plagued with some problems from the project side of things ... though I do have to say they (the project people, volunteers all) worked very hard to ameliorate the issues.

However I just received this email ...

Congratulations! Our records indicate that a computer registered by you has found a unique prime number. This computer is running BOINC, is attached to the PrimeGrid project, and is assigned to the Proth Prime Search. What makes this prime unique is that it's large enough to enter the Top 5000 List in Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database.

Rather startled actually ... I really didn't do that much work when compared with others in the Challenge ... didn't even make the Top 100 on an individual basis.

Just goes to show that even small contributions DO matter ...
